When it comes to the biggest, most delicious pumpkin pies ever made, one particular creation takes the cake – or should we say, the pie. In 2018, a 647-pound pumpkin pie created by New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest pumpkin pie.
The mouthwatering pie was created in a giant trailer that had been transformed into a 20-foot-wide oven. This massive oven was used to bake an even bigger pumpkin pie that measured over 12 feet across and 10 inches deep! The ingredients included an entire full-sized Jolly Giant pumpkins weighing 175 pounds, 36 eggs, 2 gallons of evaporated milk, 250 pounds of sugar and 2 gallons of home-made pumpkin puree.
Once the huge dessert was prepared by some of Ohio’s finest bakers, including Shannon Hulslander and Jill Kressman from Germany Valley Meats, it was assembled and baked onsite at the Field Of Dreams Pumpkin Festival in New Bremen. After a few hours of baking at 425 degrees Fahrenheit, this delectable treat weighed in at 647 pounds!
Since then, it has become part of local lore as one can see replicas of it outside several businesses around town. On top of that, a life sized replica is on permanent display at Lock One Community Arts Center located in downtown New Bremen to commemorate its achievement by setting the world record as “the largest pumpkin pie ever made”.
For anyone who loves their Thanksgiving dessert with extra servings (and even more calories!), this classic American treat is sure to tantalize your taste buds and make you feel like you’ve died — or rather ate your way — into fall heaven!
