The ball python is one of the most beloved reptiles in the world, thanks to their calm, docile demeanor and their beautiful, colorful scales. But did you know that the biggest ball python on record is a whopping 10 feet long?
This massive snake, dubbed “Ginormica,” lives at the Reptile Zoo in Fountain Valley, California. She was first discovered in March of 2019, when her owner, Ryan McVeigh, brought her in to be weighed. To everyone’s surprise, she weighed in at a staggering 41 pounds – a world record for ball pythons.
Ginormica is an albino ball python, meaning she has no color in her scales. This is likely why she has been able to grow to such an impressive size – albino ball pythons lack the pigment that limits the size of other ball pythons.
Ginormica’s size is even more impressive when you consider her age. She is estimated to be about 12 years old, which is relatively young for a ball python. Most reach their full size by 10-12 years of age, but it’s possible that Ginormica’s albino genes have allowed her to grow bigger than normal.
At 10 feet long, Ginormica is a sight to behold. Of course, she is not the only large ball python out there – there are several others that measure 8-9 feet in length. But what sets Ginormica apart is her age and her albino genes.
In addition to her impressive size, Ginormica also has an impressive appetite. She is fed a diet of thawed frozen mice and rats, and she eats up to five of them in a single meal. Her owner also says she loves to bask in the sun or under a heat lamp, and she’s very active, often exploring her tank or enjoying a good head massage.
Ginormica is a remarkable example of what a ball python can achieve in terms of size. She is the biggest ball python in the world, and she’s living proof that with the right care and nutrition, these wonderful creatures can reach lengths that most people never thought possible.
