The largest salt water lake in the world is the Caspian Sea. The Caspian Sea is located between Europe and Asia and is bordered by five countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. The Caspian Sea has a surface area of 143,200 square miles (371,000 square kilometers) and a volume of 10 billion cubic meters (260 billion gallons). The average depth of the Caspian Sea is 3 meters (10 feet), but it reaches a maximum depth of 1,025 meters (3,363 feet) in the southern part of the sea.
