Which Animal Has The Largest Egg In The World?

The ostrich has the largest egg in the world. Measuring about 15cm long and 12.5cm wide, on average, an ostrich egg weighs 1.4kg - that’s almost three times as much as a chicken’s egg!

Interestingly, the female ostrich lays her eggs in a communal nest, which can contain anywhere from 10 to 60 eggs at a time. The male then takes on the role of incubating them for around 42 days until they hatch.

While an ostrich’s egg is by far the biggest of any bird species', it’s not actually the largest type of egg in existence. That accolade goes to certain reptiles, such as crocodiles and dinosaurs!
