The title of “fattest dog in the world” is a hotly contested one. Many dogs have been in the running for the title, including some notoriously plump pups from all over the world. But the undisputed champion of chubbiness is a Neapolitan Mastiff named Obie.
Obie was rescued from a shelter in Oregon in 2012, weighing in at a whopping 77 pounds – more than four times the normal weight for a Mastiff of his size. His rescue, Nora Vanatta, had her suspicions that he had been overfed, and was determined to get him back to a healthy weight.
After months of dieting, exercise and plenty of love and attention, Obie eventually slimmed down to a more reasonable and healthy weight of 55 pounds. But his story doesn’t end there.
In late 2015, Nora noticed that Obie’s weight had started to creep back up, and by April 2016 he was back to his original 77-pound frame. After some investigation, Nora found that her son had been secretly feeding Obie snacks and treats, despite having been instructed not to do so.
Even with all the extra snacks, Obie is a happy, healthy pup with no signs of health issues due to his weight gain. In fact, he’s even been featured on the cover of a magazine!
So there you have it – Obie is the indisputable fattest dog in the world. While his story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of overfeeding your pets, it’s also a reminder of the power of love and dedication. After years of hard work and dedication, Obie is living the life of a happy, healthy canine – and he’s a testament to the power of perseverance.
