The largest cities south of the equator are Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Bogotá, Colombia; and Lima, Peru. All four of these cities have populations of over three million people. Santiago is the largest city in Chile with a population of 6.5 million people. It is located in the central part of the country and is the capital city. Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina and has a population of 13 million people. It is located on the eastern coast of South America and is one of the largest cities on the continent. Bogotá is Colombia's capital city and has a population of 8 million people. It is located in central Colombia near where it meets with Venezuela and Ecuador. Lima is Peru's capital city and has a population just over 10 million people. It too is located on South America's Pacific coast but further north than Buenos Aires
