In a recent study, it was found that the largest agricultural company in terms of revenue was Cargill. This food conglomerate generated an estimated $116 billion USD in 2016 and has more than 66,000 employees globally. The American multinational corporation operates in 70 countries around the world, with some of its most important markets including Brazil, China, and India. It’s also one of only two companies on this list to be headquartered outside of North America. They produce more than 300 types of products which include commodities like grain, cornmeal, and edible oils as well as consumer goods such as beef patties for McDonald’s or hot dogs for Subway.
Some other notable items of which they are the world’s largest producer include salt, soy sauce, and canned tomatoes. Over the years, they have made several large acquisitions including Purina Mills, Protein Sources International and Töpfer. Their business is broken up into three divisions which include agribusiness, food ingredients, and texturizing solutions. Cargill is also known for its philanthropy, which includes a gift of $1.2 million USD to fund a cancer center in Texas.
