The longest tributary of the Mississippi River is the Missouri River. It is approximately 2,341 miles long. The Missouri River starts in the Rocky Mountains of Montana and flows eastward through North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri before joining the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri.
