The Oldest Baptist Church in America is the First Baptist Church in America, located in Providence, Rhode Island. The church was founded in 1638 by Roger Williams, a Puritan minister who had been expelled from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his religious beliefs. The church has a long and storied history, and played an important role in the founding of Brown University. Today, the church is still an active congregation, with a membership of over 1,000 people.
